Mining and resources video production across South Australia

Backlit Industrial provides mining and resources video production for sites across South Australia, including remote and regulated locations most creative crews can't get onto. Founder Jonny Pappas spent years as a project manager in industrial services on live mine sites and gas plants for KAEFER, including BHP Olympic Dam and Santos Moomba, so inductions, PPE and site protocol aren't a learning curve. Content is planned around what the business needs: tenders, recruitment, executive comms, or a record of safety culture on site.

Live mine sites and gas plants, not just a portfolio line

Founder Jonny Pappas spent years as a project manager in industrial services for KAEFER on live sites, including BHP's Olympic Dam mine and Santos's Moomba gas processing facility. That background means the crew knows what a live site looks and operates like, what a site induction actually covers, and where not to stand near a lift.

Before Backlit, that experience moved into marketing and communications at KAEFER Integrated Services, then sales enablement at global mining technology company Chrysos Corporation. The content side of the business grew out of seeing how industrial and resources businesses struggled to communicate their own capability.

Inductions, PPE and working around operations

Remote and regulated sites run on protocol: inductions completed before arrival, PPE sorted in advance, and a crew that knows to work around live operations rather than through them. That's arranged up front, so a shoot doesn't become a compliance problem or a reason to be turned away at the gate.

What resources businesses use the content for

The same visit produces content for four different purposes: tender submissions and capability statements that show your own sites instead of stock imagery, recruitment content and employee spotlights for hiring in a tight labour market, executive comms and LinkedIn for leadership visibility, and a record of safety culture and site work as it actually happens.

How the retainer works for mining and resources clients

Coverage scales with how many sites or projects are in play: Foundation for a single site, Growth for multiple sites or projects, Platinum for multi-site or flagship work. On-site time runs from up to one day a month at Foundation to up to four at Platinum, with photo, short-form video and, from Growth up, a quarterly long-form project showcase.

What you receive

  • A crew experienced on live mine sites and gas plants, not just city jobs
  • Inductions, PPE and site protocol sorted before arrival
  • Content planned around tenders, recruitment, executive comms and safety culture
  • Photography and short-form video from the same site visit
  • Quarterly long-form project showcase (Growth and Platinum)
  • Employee spotlights for recruitment, from quarterly to monthly depending on package
  • Coverage that scales from a single site to multi-site, flagship work

Our work page shows the documentary approach we bring to any live site: the crane services gallery, shot on a closed street during a 250T lift in Adelaide CBD, follows the same principle we apply on mine sites and gas plants, inductions and PPE sorted, shooting the work as it happens. See the work

Before you enquire.

Has your crew actually worked on mine sites before?

Yes. Founder Jonny Pappas spent years as a project manager in industrial services for KAEFER on live mine sites and gas plants, including BHP's Olympic Dam and Santos's Moomba facility, before founding Backlit.

How do you handle inductions and site access for regulated sites?

Inductions, PPE and any site-specific requirements are confirmed and completed before we arrive, so access isn't sorted on the day and a shoot doesn't hold up operations or slow down the crew already on site.

Can you work around live operations rather than stopping them?

Yes. The crew is experienced in environments where filming has to happen around live work, not instead of it, which is part of why the founder's background is on operating sites rather than in a studio.

What do resources businesses typically use this content for?

Tender submissions and capability statements, recruitment content for hiring in a tight labour market, executive comms and LinkedIn, and a record of the work and safety culture on site as it happens.

Do you cover sites outside Adelaide?

Yes, coverage extends across South Australia. Travel and travel-related expenses outside the agreed scope may be charged separately, and that's set out before any work begins.
